Wine Video of the Week — looking for wines for ‘under 7 bones’

The inscrutable Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV poses the age-old question in this week’s video pick — namely, can wine under seven bucks be any good? Well, one out of three ain’t bad, unless you happened to buy one of the other two.

The 2004 Chateau St Lager Brouilly, Cru Beaujolais, ($6) turns out to be a hit, an entry-level Beaujolais that is "really surprising" for its complexity. The 2006 Terra Andina Carmenere, Chile Carmenere, ($6.49), on the other hand, starts off with an interesting orange scent but winds up tasting like a "fake fruit bomb." And the 2004 Arnoux Cotes Du Ventoux, Ventoux/Luberon/Nimes, ($6) evokes "old banana peel mixed in with dirt."

A great way to learn about wines is to watch an expert taste, rate and describe them. Selections are picked because the topic is timely or seems particularly interesting. Each week a new clip, via Viddler, WNR’s player of choice because it lets you add your own comments.
